Re: ML338

Hello David Thank you for your enquiry. My father commanded ML1301, which he sailed in a convoy to Malta, then was involved with the landings in Sicily and Salerno, did harbour defence work etc in Naples, then based in Maddelana and Bastia. Unfortunately killed during the assault on Elba. I have pho...

Re: ML 1301 'Meda'

Hello Hospers
Thank you for posting these new photos of the ship in a rather sorry state. What information do you need? I have a hatch cover for the ship languishing in my garden. Please contact me on cdcarter263@hotmail.com for further details. David Carter

Re: A Long shot - ML 916 and ...?

Thanks Admin for that explanation. ML's were not only used as direction guides at D-Day. Some were fitted with radar in the Mediterranean a year earlier and were so used in Operation Husky and Salerno. The operator who told me this - the late Dennis Blow - said that the equipment was similar to that...

Re: An interesting development?

Thanks Steve for this very useful map. You might like to add that MASB 32 is in Norfolk and there is an Air-Sea Rescue Launch in Southern Spain.

Re: MTB 208

We're celebrating this boat's 75th birthday this weekend. I attach photos of the boat - under restoration - with its proud owner James. The beer-can was given to James's grandfather who served on board HMS Vanguard during the Royal visit to Australia. mtb-208-restoration-august-2016-8.jpg mtb-208-re...

HMS President

Readers might like to see this article from Forces TV. There is a strong possibility that HMS President, currently at Chatham, may be scrapped. She is one of only three surviving WW1 ships and the training base for London RNVR, until the new "concrete ship" was opened in St Katherine's Dock. Many of...

MTB 208

MTB 208 Our member James Battison is restoring MTB 208 at Port Hampton - the site of the Thorneycroft works. It is 75 years since she was originally launched, so James has invited CFVA members to visit on 12th August. If you come by car, there is a car park on the Lower Sunbury Road; if you travel b...

Re: Thames Traditional Boat Festival

Hello JohnK I'm very sorry you missed us - we were there all 3 days, as you can see from the photos that Kevin has posted. Our tent was very close to MTB 102, so you could not have looked very hard! Also on Saturday, Peter Bickmore and his family joined us, so it would have been very good to see you.
