Re: Action off Catania on 11th July 1943

Dear Platon As I remember the action the Coxswain collapsed with a wound to his back and I don’t recall an explosion behind the bridge. I am convinced that there was only one MG being fired from the conning tower and we admired the spirited resistance shown by the submarine’s gunner. I didn’t see if...

Re: Action off Catania on 11th July 1943

Dear Platon The coxswain was wounded (one bullet wound in his back, I was standing close by at the time and I replaced him at the wheel) and throughout the action I was not aware of any cannon fire. Our firing prevented the submarine crew using their deck gun. I think that my boat fired one torpedo ...

Re: Action off Catania on 11th July 1943

Dear Platon My name is Ken Gadsdon. My memory is now not what it's was but I served as an AB on MTB 651 during that action. All I can recall is that my boat suffered one casualty (coxswain ) in that action. We surprised a submarine as it surfaced, presumably returning to its base. In the subsequent ...

Re: Photos of MTB Officers in Bastia, 1944

Dear Jeffrey, Thanks for your interesting message re your Dad and the two British officers in your photo. I am afraid that I cannot help you though. As far as I can recall, my boat (MTB 651) took part in some joint actions alongside PT's during the North African campaign but then we carried on to th...

Re: The British 'Dark' class

Great pictures but, to me, 'tin' MTBs do not appear to be so 'workmanlike'.
I'm sure the designers have got it right, but try convincing us riders of the wartime wooden variety !

Thanks, Team, for the date of the Show. I have re-read the Vice Chairman's report, as you implied, and stand chastened. My skipper always said I was a dimwit. Sadly, I, with my cherished wife and other survivors of our village wrinkly club are taking the Canary Islands by storm during the two weeks ...

Re: Anniversary of the Bari Raid

Although my boat (MTB 651) was in the harbour that night and took part in the rescue operations we did not suffer any mustard gas burns and threaded our way out the following morning to 'get on with the war'. Therefore the full impact of the disaster was lost on us and Petro's article has filled in ...

Models

I understand there will be a Model Engineering Exhibition in London in January and that the Coastal Forces Veterans will have a stand there.
This should be interesting.
Anyone know the dates please?
