Coastal Forces Advanced Bases in the Med.

I have found some more of my late Father's wartime paperwork. I have a Transport Work Ticket authorising him to take an Albion Workshop Lorry from advance CF Base Santa Margherita in the Gulf of Genoa to Leghorn via Spizia in June 45 loaded with Engineering stores. He would also talk about driving a...

I have just received the detailed Record of Service Manifest from the RN for my father Bert Lapthorne POMM (Deceased). It confirms he was attached to the 3rd ML Flotilla in the Med from Feb 1944 to March 1946. I am aware of some of his ML postings from his general service history but all the above a...

Leghorn (Livorno)

Can anyone confirm the location of this dockside as Leghorn? Dockside image My researches into my fathers war service now lead me to believe he was supporting the 7th MTB Flotilla from Malta to Bastia then on to Leghorn. He was PO MM Bert Lapthorne. I cannot attribute him to any particular boat but ...

Re: 3rd Flotilla ML Malta

I have discovered that the top picture of the engine on the quayside is in fact Leghorn and not Malta.
Seems Dad (Bert Lapthorne) moved to Leghorn in May 1945 and was possibly supporting the MTB's of the 7th Flotilla.

Re: 3rd Flotilla ML Malta

I have a photo of ML 134 in Malta. Not sure if this is of interest? My Dad, Bert Lapthorne was based there doing CF maintenance. I have photos of him operating cranes and changing ML engines.

Re: Coastal Forces Bases

Looking at my Dad's records, he was at a forward base in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera during 1945. I have travel dockets for him to go by lorry for spares to Naples via rome from that period.

Italy 1944–1946

I am researching my farther Bert Lapthorne and his posting on Motor Launches. His record shows the ships as St. Angelo (C F 16) which is Malta and (Brynsa) which is Naples. There is not further detail on what boats he was on. Can anyone explain the C F 16 please?
