ML 231

I attach photos of ML 231 and its crew. These were taken late 1941 or early 1942 in Scapa Flow. The Captain was Lt Ralph Hopper RNVR and the Sub Lt was F L 'Nick' Carter RNVR, who took the photos. Can anyone identify other crew members or tell me of the boat's subsequent history? crew-of-ml-231-in-s...

Re: RNPS

Hello Christopher

I have passed your enquiry to a friend whose father was a RNVR Lieutenant based at Lowestoft. He may be able to help you. You might also like to look at http://www.rnpsa.co.uk/history.htm

Re: Vosper 61601 45ft

My friend who owns Lindsey , a 50ft. Mk1 RAF Refueler, has written to say the boat in the photograph doesn’t look like yours, and that it may be an earlier type that had twin petrol engines. The Mark 1’s had 4 cylinder Crosley diesel engines (however, there was prototype that was fitted with twin Cr...

Re: Vosper 61601 45ft

Hello "Vosper" Glad you could join us. I have a friend who has a flying boat refueller (transformed into a launch). If you could post pictures of yours, I can see if they are similar. Regards David Carter

Re: MTB HMS Beehive

Hi Cathy I've just had a lovely long chat with your dad. It was a coincidence you posted on this site on Thursday, because that day I was in Arnos Grove visiting friends and called on him. Unfortunately he was out, but I will visit him next month (trains and tube strikes permitting). He told me that...

I see in the Book of Remembrance today, there is a long list of men killed on ML 466. What happened?

Re: ML 891

Dear Christian and Kenneth Thank you both for your very comprehensive replies. As it happens I know Appledore very well. Father's (and eventually Hector's) boat was built at Blackmore's yard in Bideford and fitted out in Appledore, it carried out trials in the Torridge estuary. Grandfather moved to ...

Re: ML 891

Christian - thank you for the info.
Kenneth - I was reading from yesterday's book of remembrance, which lists 3 men, died the same day. You say Lt Weston lived in Appledore - Kent or Devon?

Regards

David

Re: ML 1301 'Meda'

HDML 1301 Some of you have asked for news of this boat. It sailed from Gibraltar to Ijmuiden, Netherlands in 2007. The then owner intended to restore it to 1943 external appearance, but keep 21st Century internal comforts. Unfortunately being moored on a (fresh water) canal did not agree with its 70...

ML 1301 'Meda'

Here are two images of the current condition of ML 1301 aka 'HMS Meda' and 'Gibel Tariq'. While under restoration in Holland this craft was vandalised, sunk, raised, and now sits on the quayside in Lelystadt. Its present owner tells me it is in bad condition because of the sinking last year. He is p...
