MGB 658

Hi Grandson It is a great pleasure and enormous interest to be able to hopefully reveal some of the details of your Grandads service on MGB 658. His service record is interesting in that he was a Telegraphist (Sparker) and that he was a Chatham rating—HMS Pembroke—and that his service records reveal...

Iris Clements

It is with deep sadness we learn of the death of Iris Clements. Iris will always be remembered for her dedicated support for her late Husband Ron, who for many years was the Social Secretary of the London Branch. Of the many activities they arranged I well recall the London Branch visits to the Towe...

Re: MTB 633

MGB 647 was with those 11 boats lost in a storm being towed to Alexandria in 1946 . I have great memories of the 12 months I was part of her crew , before leaving her in Malta in June 1945 . These boats were home for some 2 years for many who sailed with them from the UK in 1943 crossing the Bay of ...

Re: MTB 633

Good Evening Victoria I read your request about MTB 633 , and I can only follow on from my post on the subject , that I did serve on MTB 633 as a stand by RDF operator from July 16th 1943 until the boat returned to Malta on 23rd July after operations around the Messina channel off the Italian coast ...

Re: MTB 298

Re MTB 298 Interesting forum on MTB 298 , and serving in the Komiza campaign on MTB 243 , I can recall the incident about the sinking of the Niobe a reclaimed German Destroyer off the Island of Silba close to Zara as it was then known. This action is recorded in Mediternnen MTB's at war by Rover Rey...

Re: MTB 670

The last post of MTB 670 was of great interest where it mentioned the Planinsky channel and the date April 12th 1945 it was only 2 days before on the 10th that we on MGB647 again with MGB 643 was in action with F Lighters where MGB 647 sustained serious above water damage and remarkably no causaltie...

Re: MTB 633

Thanks John for your reply sadly my time on MTB 633 was very brief in that I had little time to blend with the crew , but the memory remains very vivid , It was in the Port of Augusta in Sicily on July 21st 1943 that one of the crew Shipmate A/B Arthur Arnold was killed during an enemy air raid on t...

Leading Stoker Leslie Fish

It is with deep sadness to learn of the death of Shipmate Leslie Fish . Leslie was one of our early Members and with his Wife were regular attenders at our reunions , as with all these reunions the usual mess deck banter would surface and Leslie had his tales to tell all part of that wonderful spiri...

This photograph shows some former crew members of MGB 647, and was taken during a get together in Southend in 1986. The members include myself as the radar operator onboard 647, and well as stoker and shipmate Ken Speed, who recently passed away.

Re: MTB 243

It has been fascinating these last few days to read of the exploits of MTB 243 on our forum. I was drafted to her from HMS Gregale (Malta) in August 1943 as Radar operator and served on her until her torpedo tubes were removed and she operated within Special Services. Of all the fondest memories I r...

Re: Rear-Admiral Sir Morgan Morgan-Giles

Another sad loss of an officer totally supportive of the Coastal Forces Veterans and especially to the Veterans of Vis, where as Lieut Commander RN he served as the Senior Naval Officer (SNOVIS) in Vis, January 1944, controlling the operations and patrols around the islands of Dalmatia. It was from ...

Interestingly the Radar Dome shown on the photograph of MTB670 was of the latest American design Radar known as PPI -- Plan Position Indicator -- which was first seen when the 28th Flot. of 70ft Vospers arrived from America in October 1944 and became operational in the Adriatic ( Ancona)in early 194...
