Re: MTBs 634, 637, 638 and 667

Hello Croatian Navy, Have a look at this site if you have not already: http://www.unithistories.com/units_index/default.asp?file=../officers/personsx.html There is certainly a photo of Dennis Herbert Lummis there. You may find some others - I do not have time at the moment but will try to look later...

Re: MTB 670

Hello Petro,

Have you seen the photo's I posted under MGB 647 in the MGB section. The captions in my father's album did say they were taken 'off Greece' but I do not know when or where?

Re: MTB 670

@croatian navy

Apologies and thank you for the information. Initially when I did not know where Zara was I did a search on Google Earth and the only location that came up was on the Italian coast south of Ancona. I assumed this was correct - stupid mistake sorry.

Re: MTB 670

@croatian navy - Yes I realise this but I have not been able to tie this in to his timeline on 670 - if you have info please advise. His photos seem to be Italian based i.e Naples, Ancona, La Maddelena, Zara etc. There is one photo ( not very good) with the caption ` on patrol - Yugoslavian PT's fol...

Re: MTB 670

Rita, Glad the photos are of use and the information supplied by others is of interest. They may have missed each other on 670 but still been part of the same flotilla. Service record info can be sketchy and do not show temporary allocations. My father was on ML563 in the Mediterranean in Aug 44 whe...

Re: MTB 614

Hi

The following entry is from Naval-history.net - casualty lists - I searched under MTB614 - was this gentleman your uncle?

SHAW, Harry, Act/Chief Motor Mechanic 4c, P/MX 98243, MTB.614, 29 March 1944, surface action, killed.

Re: MTB 614

Hi, I think she started life as MGB 614 and was converted in Sept1943. Somebody more knowledgeable than me needs to confirm this. Have found this info so far: MTB 614 ex-MGB 614 details: see MGB 614 51st MTB Flotilla. Commanding Officer 05.11.1943-(06.1944) T/Lt. R.H. Newman, RNVR 12.1944-(07.1945) ...

Hi Rita, The following is an extract from a reply by Admin to one of my posts: `Imperial War Museum North has a book with complete crew lists and next of kin etc, compiled by the Senior Officer of SGB 4, and passed to the museum as part of a collection of his private papers. So that may be the only ...

Re: MTB 670

Thank you for that information - I will read with interest. This action was before my father had joined her. He was on ML 563 on that date but she was sunk on the 16th August during Dragoon landings off south of France. He joined MTB 670 in October '44 but I don't know where he was inbetween. Cheers...

MTB 670

I have previously posted questions under ML's 122 and 563 in relation to the service record of my late father William Aubrey Jones JX 300350. His service record showed him on numerous bases but only on tenders ML122(Home Waters), ML 563 ( Mediterranean) and HMS Grecian ( Home Waters - post hostiliti...

Re: MTB 638

In the information above MTB 634 features prominently. The attached photo is from my late father's war-time album - do not know a date but I now believe he was on MTB 670 from Oct 44 to Jun 45. I will shortly post a separate topic on this. Sorry about photo quality probably taken with a box Brownie!...

Hi Jaime, I cannot remember which route I used to get there but the link is http://www.unithistories.com/officers/RNVR_officers There's a lot of interesting information in there. Can't answer your other query - would hazard a guess one was HM and the other Canadian navy - I'm sure somebody else will...

Re: ML 118, 150, 153 & 490

Hello Jaime, If you try a simple google on the ML number and add WW2 it generally comes up with something. For example I have just googled ML 118 WW2 and it produced the following on naval-history.net for 1942 dispositions. 2nd Motor Launch Flotilla - ML.112, ML.113 (SO), ML.114, ML.116, ML.117, ML....

Thank you - that ties in - I was thinking the W/T was war time but his substantive rating was telegraphist. There is an additional date inserted next to this entry of the 2nd Aug 1943. He was on the ML563 at the time but this was sunk by a mine on 16th August 1944. His record ( I have the original) ...

Re: MLs 122 and 563

Thanks Brian - a few more pieces in a still imcomplete jigsaw. My father was William Aubrey Jones JX300350. He was an 18 year old volunteer in August 41 and was trained as a telegraphist. His service record shows him on the ML122 from 1Aug 1942 to 11 Feb 1943 - initial base was Forward II which was ...

MLs 122 and 563

I am trying to find information relating to my father's service record - his name was William Aubrey Jones and he was a telegraphist. He volunteered in 1941 and was Class A discharged in 1946.His service record included ML 122 (Aug 42 to Feb 43) and ML 563 (Feb 43 to July 45). However ML563 was sunk...
