Syd That fits in - the RNR were generally merchant seamen who could be co-opted into the RN. The RNVR were civilians who had volunteered to train in the event of hostilities. The rather rude description was that the RNR were sailors trying to be gentlemen, the RNVR were gentlemen trying to be sailor...

Thanks Admin for that explanation. ML's were not only used as direction guides at D-Day. Some were fitted with radar in the Mediterranean a year earlier and were so used in Operation Husky and Salerno. Hello JohnK I'm very sorry you missed us - we were there all 3 days, as you can see from the photos that Kevin has posted. Our tent was very close to MTB 102, so you could not have looked very hard! The TTBF is being held this weekend at Henley on Thames. CFVA (London Branch) will be exhibiting there. There will be many boats of interest on display, including MTB 102 and various Dunkirk veterans. Please come and join Peter Bickmore and myself and enjoy the Festival.
