Re: ML 118, 150, 153 & 490

Hello Jaime, If you try a simple google on the ML number and add WW2 it generally comes up with something. For example I have just googled ML 118 WW2 and it produced the following on naval-history.net for 1942 dispositions. 2nd Motor Launch Flotilla - ML.112, ML.113 (SO), ML.114, ML.116, ML.117, ML....

Re: MLs 122 and 563

Have recently found the attached photo of the crew of the ML563 in my father's war-time album. Do not have a date for it but the caption says it was at Mers-El- Kebia, North Africa. The caption also includes the crew names i.e starting from back left to right Ken Cleary, BillJones ( my father), Mick...

Re: MGB 647

Hi - realise this thread has not been commented on for awhile but I have just noticed a photo of MGB 647 in my father's album. There is also a photo of MGB 646 and a photo of a `Taffy' Hook on MGB 645. The caption just states `off Greece' The copy of my father's service record does not show him serv...

Re: Non substantive rating

Thank you - that ties in - I was thinking the W/T was war time but his substantive rating was telegraphist. There is an additional date inserted next to this entry of the 2nd Aug 1943. He was on the ML563 at the time but this was sunk by a mine on 16th August 1944. His record ( I have the original) ...

Re: MLs 122 and 563

I have noticed that 2 of the known crew of ML 122 sadly lost their lives on consecutive days i.e LSea John Wardropper Turner C/JX 190958 who died on 29/01/1943 in an explosion, and AB Frank Richardson D/JX345147 Died 30/01/1943 - cause not given. Would any diary show whether this was the same incide...

Re: MLs 122 and 563

Thanks Brian - a few more pieces in a still imcomplete jigsaw. My father was William Aubrey Jones JX300350. He was an 18 year old volunteer in August 41 and was trained as a telegraphist. His service record shows him on the ML122 from 1Aug 1942 to 11 Feb 1943 - initial base was Forward II which was ...

He volunteered in 1941 and was Class A discharged in 1946.His service record included ML 122 (Aug 42 to Feb 43) and ML 563 (Feb 43 to July 45). However ML563 was sunk...
