Re: MGB 658

Hello Chine. Thanks for starting this interesting post. I have a photo taken in Malta that shows the damage. They did a lot of repairs and modifications there. Bastia in Corsica had been heavily damaged by the enemy when they evacuated. If those photos were taken in early June 1944, they would have ...

ML 231

I attach photos of ML 231 and its crew. These were taken late 1941 or early 1942 in Scapa Flow. The Captain was Lt Ralph Hopper RNVR and the Sub Lt was F L 'Nick' Carter RNVR, who took the photos. Can anyone identify other crew members or tell me of the boat's subsequent history? crew-of-ml-231-in-s...

Re: Vosper 61601 45ft

My friend who owns Lindsey , a 50ft. Mk1 RAF Refueler, has written to say the boat in the photograph doesn’t look like yours, and that it may be an earlier type that had twin petrol engines. The Mark 1’s had 4 cylinder Crosley diesel engines (however, there was prototype that was fitted with twin Cr...

Re: MTB HMS Beehive

Hi Cathy I've just had a lovely long chat with your dad. It was a coincidence you posted on this site on Thursday, because that day I was in Arnos Grove visiting friends and called on him. Unfortunately he was out, but I will visit him next month (trains and tube strikes permitting). He told me that...

Dear Christian and Kenneth Thank you both for your very comprehensive replies. As it happens I know Appledore very well. Father's (and eventually Hector's) boat was built at Blackmore's yard in Bideford and fitted out in Appledore, it carried out trials in the Torridge estuary. Grandfather moved to ...

Kenneth - I was reading from yesterday's book of remembrance, which lists 3 men, died the same day. You say Lt Weston lived in Appledore - Kent or Devon?
