MGB 334

Hello All, especially Brian Holmes, At a model show in Melbourne, Australia recently a young chap asked me did I have any info on the above 'little ship' as his great uncle Michael Thorpe served on her. I know she was a Fairmile C class as I have John Lambert's book -- Allied Coastal Forces vol I. B...

Re: MTB 621

Hi Sheila & Pioneer,

There are plenty of copies (40+) of Peter Scott's book available via Bookfinder dot com, a relly good book search facility. The cheapest price being $AU17.13 postage included.

MTB Losses

Does a database exist that shows the GPS co-ordinates of each MTB sunk/lost during WW2? I am asking this on behalf of a friend in the US.

Cheers,
Roger.

Re: Looking for a patternmaker

Hi Ted,

Yes I know Les and have been getting his newsletters for quite some time. He is not really in a position, healthwise to do pattern-making as he is selling a lot of his kits. I may put a notice in 'Escort' if I don't receive any other reponses.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Looking for a patternmaker

Hello to all from 'way downunder', I’m looking for someone to help me make masters for 1/144th scale ‘little ships’, in particular initially a Fairmile B class ML (Motor Launch) patrol boat from WW2. This will (I’m quietly optimistic) lead to other craft such as MGBs, MTBs, PTs plus quite a number o...

Re: ML Colour Scheme

Terry,

I too am looking into this very question for the model I'm doing, so when I hear back from Roy Ellis I'll let you know what he comes up with.

Roger's Little Ships

Hello from 'downunder' in OZ, I think it's about time I posted some piccies of what I've been up to recently and not so recently. Hopefully I've completed the attachments correctly, so here goes -- Only two models completed so far, both in 1/144th scale and both rescaled from card models with extras...

Aren't you in contact with 'Bee' on the World Naval Ships Forum? Her dad was the radio operator on 357 during 1944-5.

We lose another ‘Legend of St Nazaire’

‘Micky’ Burn MC (11 Dec 1912–3 Sep 2010) While not a navy man I feel his exploits and connection to the ‘little ships’ are well worth remembering. Michael Clive Burn, a Captain of the Kings Royal Rifle Regt and No. 2 Commando has sadly passed away in his north Wales home in his 98th year after suffe...

Re: ML 269

Hello from OZ, I am a supporting member of the Fairmile Association here in Australia and one of our members who lives in NSW served on ML(GB) 269 while in Burma in the Arakan area. I've just had a look in the book "The 13th & 14th Fairmile Flotillas in Burma" which mentions 269 quite ...

Re: HDML 1387

Great news Brian, :D What a great sight it would be if MGB 81, HSL 102 and MTB 102 could be present for the launching and then have all four of them cruising along together. Please, please someone at the launching please take lots of piccies for those of us tooooooo far away to attend. :tu: Cheers, ...

Re: Last Action of the War

Hello dutch, I searched through my books on Fairmile Bs and found the book "The 13th & 14th Fairmile Flotillas in Burma" which is hard to find but has info on all the flotillas involved. I was very fortunate indeed when this book was given to me by a friend here in OZ as copies are qui...

Re: Action at the end of the War

Greetings Julie and Ted from OZ, :) In the very good book The 13th & 14th Fairmile Flotillas in Burma mention is made of an action they claim to be the last coastal forces action of WW2. The action took place on the night of 16/17 May 1945 and involved MLs 594, 303, 904 and 269 ambushing a numbe...

Coastal Forces Models

Greetings all, These excellent models from Horst form the basis for what I am doing in 144th scale, plus a foray into 72nd and 35th scales. I can tell you Horst's models are VERY well detailed and turn out very nicely indeed. The added advantage I have found that card models have over resin/plastic ...
