Leading Wren Brenda Coombs
We send our deepest sympathy to Alison and her Sister Pat and Family at this sad time with the cherished memories we hold of a very sincere friend and shipmate.
It was at Lowestoft HMS Mantis where Brenda embarked on a wartime romance, when on a run ashore she met the A/B seaman Charles Coombs serving aboard MTBs 88, 222 & 602. That romance bloomed and they were married in Lowestoft on 25th May 1945 for a commission that lasted 56 years until the death of Charles in 2001.
Both Charles and Brenda were loyal supporters of our CFVA from its early beginning enjoying its vast opportunities for the renewing and the making of new friendships. With their daughter Alison they took part in many of our visits to Croatia and the Island of Vis. Since the death of Charles, Brenda and Alison have continued to support and enjoy our visits to Vis, sadly this year they had to cancel due to Brenda becoming unwell and the death of her daughter Janet in August
