Hello Sunshine,

I have only just twigged about info on the Internet; I believe my father was the Commander of MTB 490, 'Sandy Bown' unfortunately he died some years ago but would be interesting to find out any information etc. I do have a photo of him with another officer but I believe it may have been taken on a Frigate or Steam Gun Boat prior to MTB 490.
Herbert Gaskell Bown
1943 First Lieutenant, HM SGB 6 (steam gun boat) (HMS Grey Shark)
25.01.1944 - (07.1945)
Commanding Officer, HM MTB 490 (motor torpedo boat)

Kind regards

Chris

Hello 'sonofasailor'
Welcome aboard.
It would be very interesting to see that image of the crew of MTB 490, somebody may be able to put 'a face to a name' in their own research. If you have difficulty in uploading any images- just drop me a PM.
Regards

I met up with Randy Langford who served on MTB 490 this weekend. He is amazingly spritely and would love to see any old photos etc. Despite the record showing my father was the commanding officer I suspect there has been an error and elsewhere in the record there is mention of him commanding MTB 489, this is backed up that Randy was certain that my father was not the CO. Given he could recall huge detail of other events, I am certain he is correct, however any photos / info would be appreciated. I attach a photo of my father - Herbert Gaskell know as 'Sandy' Bown (on LHS)

I can be contacted on cjbown@hotmail.com
