MTBs Ensign?

Postby dgwilson » Sat Sep 15, 2012 1:00 am

My late Grandfather, Able Seaman Albert Sweetlove (P/JX.298647) had in his possession this ensign which I always assumed came from MTB684. It measures 1300mm x 700mm (51 x 27 inches) and is showing it's age... I was wondering if anyone out there could confirm the likelihood of it coming from a MTB or could it have came from a larger vessel?

Unlikely to have been from a larger vessel, as a vague rule of thumb 1 foot of boat length for 1" on the fly of the ensign.

Thanks for your help cdsc123. My Grandfather was also posted to MTB 316 and SGB 4 - so would I be right in thinking that as MTB 684 and SGB 4 were considerably larger than 316 the flag would more likely be from that?

Yes I think that is quite likely.
