MTB 486

Postby Pioneer » Tue Dec 04, 2012 3:57 pm

The Canadian Coastal Forces Trust is about to attempt raising funds for the purchase and restoration of British Power Boat Co, Motor Torpedo Boat - MTB 486. She was built at the British Power Boat Co’s yard at Hythe, Southampton, completed on the 5th August 1944 and immediately attached to the Canadian 29th Flotilla. She escaped the carnage that was to befall the 29th Flotilla at Ostend; at that time (14th February 1945) she was being fitted with updated radar kit in the UK.

Her CO and Flotilla SO was the renowned Lt Cdr Tony Law. DSC. RCNVR.She was of course too late to have taken part in the D-Day landings but she certainly had a distinguished career and is the last survivor of the Canadian Flotilla.

Here is a recent YouTube clip giving a very brief history and the effort now being made to secure her future.
