Yugoslavian MTBs

Postby Brian Holmes » Tue Feb 17, 2015 7:48 pm

Now is the time for me to ask a question.
Two Yugoslavian MTBs managed to escape after the German invasion and subsequently operated with the Mediterranean Fleet.
On 22nd April 1941, Yugoslav torpedo boats Kajmakcalan and Durmitor arrived at Suda Bay after escaping from Yugoslavia, via Navarino Bay.
On 2nd July 1941, Yugoslavian motor torpedo boats Kajmakcalan and Durmitor departed Alexandria for Haifa to operate under the orders of CS 15
On 22nd July 1941, Yugoslavian torpedo boats Durmitor and Kajmaklan departed Haifa to return to Alexandria
On 16th August 1941, Yugoslav torpedo boats Durmitor and Kajmakalan departed Alexandria for Mersa Matruh to operate off Bardia
On 25th August 1941, Yugoslav torpedo boats Durmitor and Kajmakcalan, completely out of service after two operations off Bardia, were ordered to depart Mersa Matruh and return to Alexandria.
The boats arrived on the 26th
In January 1942, MTBs Durmitor, Kajmakaian were at Aexandria in Egypt with Yugoslavian crews.
On 2nd April 1942, Yugoslav MTBs Durmitor and Kaymakalan (two alternative spellings) sailed from Alexandria to Port Said for slipping and fitting out as MASBs

Both boats survived the war and went on to serve in the post war Yugoslavian Navy.
They were in fact German S boats of the original type built by Lurssen.
Can anyone shed more light on them?
