Thanks a lot for your interesting contribution Peter, I love the painting of MTB 410. Needless to say, I would appreciate any further pics of or info on the Jacobs Vospers from the 28th MTB Flotilla. On the subject of radar equipment, I don't know if you know the IWM interview with Lieutenant G.P.H. James in which he tells an anecdote about their radar picking up a train instead of a viable torpedo target :

Thanks Peter, a really nice picture. Here are two Jacob's adverts from a wartime American yachting magazine. I like the strange mix of propaganda, patriotism and blatant commercialism which is so typical of these American ads. Pity the images are not clearer :

My father J.D.H Ives was on board the MV Larchbank when it was sunk on 9th September 1943 on passage in the Indian Ocean. I notice he appears to have been the person referred to in one of the later comments. He was a Chief Motor Mechanic and had been involved in the building of the MTB's in the USA. He was picked up by the SS Tahsinia after some 14 days in a lifeboat with others and taken to Sri Lanka. Ironically the SS Tahsinia was itself sunk by torpedo and gunfire from a submarine within 1 degree N and E of the position of the Larchbank when she was sunk.
Presumably a number of other crew/ratings were also in the same lifeboat. Does anyone know more?

The 28th Flotilla was made up of as we knew them as American Vospers and as a Radar operator was keenly interested in their very updated dome Radar,( ie PPI ) this flotilla joined in the Yugoslav Island campaign late in the Autmen of 1944 .These boats were crewed mostly by those from the paid off 24th flotilla , sadly some of us missed out including myself when I was drafted to MGB 647 for which I am truly thankful of a great crew , except that I may be a little jealous to miss the opertunity of the PPI Radar .
