HMS Brave Swordsman

Postby Pioneer » Wed Oct 05, 2016 5:08 pm

Now and again the skills of a modeller sometimes are quite awe inspiring.
Although only just outside of our CF timeframe - the original, and quite revolutionary gas turbine powered HMS Brave Swordsman, being launched in 1957.
Mike Harrison from New Zealand is building a 5ft plus model of this craft - not sure of the scale.
The model has taken a couple of years to reach this stage but here are a few images of his progress to date beginning with Mike holding his well deserved trophies at a recent presentation.

Latest update from Mike.
"...I am about make the Sights and from John Lambert's schematic's drawings it’s looks a bit daunting, due to the complexity and the bits and pieces that it has in the drawing it will be a challenge to replicate..."
and "...I’ve had a ball making the 2 guns so far. The one on the photos is the only one assembled as the assembled one has to be taken apart for painting. The 2nd gun has been partly etched primed..."
The detail so far achieved is simply breathtaking Mike, thank you for the updates - Well Done!! - we look forward to seeing more.

DSCN6452 (1).JPG
A very recent image from Mike in New Zealand.
After a lengthy break from the modeling of HMS Brave Swordsman this image illustrates the attention to accurate detail he manages to achieve.
A very interesting image of the Fore-deck of one of the Brave's on the background board.

Another illustration from Mike, (from down under).
I am truly in awe of this gentleman - the attention to detail for this model is fantastic, even down to 'rifling' (within these Rocket Flare Launch Tubes)
I'm so pleased that he has been able to restart with the build of HMS Brave Swordsman, especially so during these troubled times.

An earlier shot (Dec 2019) of the model's Hull with the display board of finished fittings.
This view can be linked to an earlier image, giving a good impression of the large scale and Mike's modelling skills.
