trying to trace any history of the above ship as i now live on her as a house boat and would like to find out more of what she and her crew did thanks

ML 357. A Fairmile "B" built by Anglo American Nile Tourist Company 1/8/1942. Re-numbered ML 2357, survived the War to be loaned to Bermondsey Sea Cadet Corps (1958). Sold 1961.

Aren't you in contact with 'Bee' on the World Naval Ships Forum? Her dad was the radio operator on 357 during 1944-5.

Wartime Activities
11/9/43 ML 349 and ML 357 make the passage from Cyprus to Casteloriso carrying LRDG troops. On arrival, both MLs are fired on by the Italians although the general surrender has taken place 3 days before. Fire is not returned due to orders to avoid hostile acts. Two army officers are landed and negotiate with the Italians who cease fire and both vessels enter harbour. The island is then secured.
8-9/1/44 ML 357 and ML 836 capture and then sink a 30 ton caique

have been in contact with stoker of ml357 she had a refit in late 44 at mosquito , and was on her way to med ? when picked up cork mine and suffered stern damage , crew abandoned her and spent 3 weeks on island before being picked up , they thought she was lost ,but was salvaged and towed to mosquito again . history after that unknown

Just to say my father ex crew of ML357 1942 to 1944 .We went to visit the boat at St Osyth and he was able to give the current owner quite a lot of first hand info on the boats service and original fit out etc..Also has old photos taken on board during that period.Are there any other surviving crew members out there?

Hi Peter,

You have no doubt heard from Delia Palmer re Roy Ellis, a stoker from 357. Apologies if I'm repeating myself here, so many things going round n round n round in my head at present.

I have also tracked down David Moore here in Oz (Sydney) who as young SubLT, RANVR served on 357 from 7 Jan to 26 Feb 1943 and again 3 May to 16 Dec 1943. David's claim to fame is that he had the top of his scalp slightly parted by a bullet as they came into Castellorizo in Sept 1943.

I am also awaiting an e-mail from the CFHT regarding a David Lloyd, also here in Oz who's father the late Kenneth Lloyd DSC while not having served on 357, was on ML 356 another 42nd flotilla ship.

My grandad Edward Tassie was a motor mechanic on board ML 357 in the East Med between Aug to Nov 1942.

Sadly, he passed away last year, but he gave me his photos from 1942-44 which I have posted on Pinterest here:
