Michael Flanders who went on to achieve fame as part of the comedy duo FLANDERS AND SWAN was a CW Candidate on HMS MARNE when it was torpedoed off the coast of North Africa on Armistice Day 1942, 70 years ago.

For further details of what happened when HMS MARNE and HMS HECLA were torpedoed see their pages on my web site: http://www.holywellhousepublishing.co.uk/HMS_Hecla.html

After commissioning he served with Coastal forces on ML 236 from August 1943 to January 1944 but was invalided out with Poliomyelitis and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Can anybody provide further details of his service with Coastal Forces?

Or of ML 236 in 1943-4?
