A very interesting website Dave, many thanks for posting the link.
Having read through most of the internal links within the site, it baffles me to read that such large orders were placed abroad at a time when real hardship (through lack of orders) was being experienced in our own boat building industry. The reason mooted being that only America (Elco) could build the boats in the required time rings a little hollow is my opinion; could not some of the requirement have been home produced ?
