Douglas G Elliott

London Branch have been informed that shipmate Douglas Elliott has 'crossed the bar'. A former branch committee member and resident of London, Douglas hailed from Port Eizabeth, South Africa originally and was part of the South African Naval Forces (Volunteer) with Coastal Forces during the Second World War. He initially served on RML 521 and ML 261, before being promoted to Sub-Lieutenant and appointed Commanding Officer of HDMLs 1006 and 1333, serving off West and East Africa, and in the Mediterranean and Far East. After demob he returned to South Africa where he rejoined his Sea Cadet unit, but after four years he and his wife moved to Winchmore Hill and he became involved with the local Sea Cadet unit there. He was asked to return to uniform in 1952 and promoted to Lieutenant in Sea Cadet Corps (RNVR). He remained there until 1965 gaining promotion to Lieutenant Commander, and received his Cadet Forces Medal in 1964. A popular and well regarded member of the branch, he is remembered fondly by the other members.
