Loss of MGB 641 (14 July 1943)

Postby Platon Alexiades » Sat May 23, 2020 6:16 pm

I would like to know more details on the loss of MGB 641 during the invasion of Sicily. The incident is briefly mentioned in Flag 4 by Dudley Pope. I have the report of the Italian submarine Nichelio which engaged the three MGBs (the other two were MGB 643 and MGB 646) and claimed one damaged before escaping by diving. Shortly after, MGB 641 was reportedly sunk by coastal batteries and the survivors captured but I have found nothing (so far) in the Italian archives.

Many thanks.

Hi Alex
I have recently come across your post of 23rd May this year re your help for any details of the loss of MGB 641
I attach 2 pages of the Book "Dog Boats at War" by Len Reynolds which reports the loss of the boat in words of not really the story of the bravery shown by all the Boat Crews involved.
I will leave the story to you
Keep Safe
