During the night, landing ship HMS Prince Leopold, accompanied by MGB 316, MGB 314 and MGB 312, landed a Commando unit at St Vaast, near Cherbourg. Destroyers HMS Fernie and HMS Vanity provided a covering patrol. The force withdrew after obtaining information
15/11/41 Surface Action with one man killed
24/11/41 Operation Sunstar
Landing ship HMS Prince Leopold, escorted by MGB 316, MGB 312, MGB 314 and MGB 317, landed troops on the coast of Normandy. After information was gained, the ships returned to Portsmouth

Airborne forces and an RAF technician are dropped just behind the coast where they dismantle a German Wurzburg Radar and carry away significant parts of it to the beach. Troops are recovered by landing craft escorted by the MGBs.

My Father William Bell served aboard MGB 312. He was in the night action in which Bill Anscombe was killed on the night of 15 November 1941 at approximately 2145 hours in the English Channel. Both were 21 years old at the time.
