Hello all,
I'm seeking further information on my late Uncle George - specifically in April 1945 when he was Navigating Officer on MTB 697 during an action described in Rover Reynolds book MGB 658 where he rescued a sailor trapped in a deck gun following the boat being mined.
(In the passage it mentions he was awarded the Albert Medal for this, but I've been unsuccessful in finding his name in the records of AM recipents.)
https://www.unithistories.com/officers/ ... ersH1.html shows him as follows:
T/S.Lt.
07.10.1944 (reld > 04.1946)
Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal RHSBr <------this is the confusing part that contradicts the book.
-
rescue survivor MTB Adriatic 17.04.45 <----presumably this refers to the action above?
[ (04.1945)
Navigating Officer, HM MTB 697 (motor torpedo boat) ?] <---- more confusion as 697 was lost in the action above
06.1945
-
(07.1945)
HM MGB 658 (motor gun boat)
12.10.1945
-
(04.1946)
HMS Gregale
I think he was on 658 when she foundered under tow to Alexandria too.
If anyone could shed any more light I'd be very grateful. He was a wonderful man, a grand uncle and great company.
We miss him.
Thank you.
