Coastal Forces Hulls in 1/72nd and 1/35th Scale

Postby cdsc123 » Mon Dec 17, 2012 4:07 pm

I am currently building 1/72nd scale model hulls in glass-fibre for some WWI and most WWII CF types over the coming months.

The two scales have been chosen to match the most popular scales of the model kits currently available from the likes of Italeri, Revell and Airfix etc. so that modellers can add their favourites to their existing fleets of PTs, HSLs, MTBs, MAS and E-Boats.

I have done; Fairmile B, Fairmile D, 72ft RN HDML and RAN 80ft version, Australian 80ft ambulance launch like Krawarree, USN WWI and WWII Subchasers, AMS/YMS/BYMS minesweeper, RN 80ft WWI Elco ML and USCG 83ft Wheeler.

The list of wartime boats is very long and will include; all RN long and short MTBs and MGBs (at least 20 different boats), RN SGB, MLs, all 4 MFV's, 105ft MMS, all RAF HSLs, 56ft and 60ft RAF GSP, hopefully some RAF STs and RSLs, most RASC vessels (I still need plans for several), USN PTs, USAAF AVRs, also a German R-Boat and an FLB-V and the Australian Halvorsen 62ft fast supply launch.

Post-war hulls will include; RAF Vosper RTTL, RAF 63ft GSP, RAF 96ft Krogerwerft D-Boat, RN Brave, Dark and Gay class FPBs, Ford class SDBs and Ham and Ton class minesweepers and also some foreign boats such as the Nasty Class PTF and German Jaguar and Schutze Classes.

I have also already done a few hulls in 1/35th scale; Fairmiles B & D and the 72ft HDML.

I intend to continue this project over an extended period and I welcome requests to move any favourites to the front of the queue.

I have also done a few in 1/35th scale, Fairmiles B & D and the 72ft HDML.

Hello Christian

That's a great collection of models you have there. The Dog Boat is particularly impressive, and it's interesting to see one made out as an RAF LRRC. The BPB MASB looks a very graceful boat too, more so than comes across in photos of them at times. I'd love to see a Fairmile B made out in a standard anti-submarine role — are you aware of any 1/72nd scale kits for such a boat?

Thank you very much, I'm afraid no such kit exists although I can supply the Fairmile B hull in GRP, and certain fittings are available commercially e.g.

I always felt the series of photos of MASB 33 and 35 show their graceful slender lines best;

I build WW II ships, customising the existing kits, as you have done.

I have seen and enjoyed your work from the photos that you have uploaded.

Would it be possible to get a price list?

What does each hull include?

I would be particularly interested in the Vosper 72' MTB and the BPB 71'9'' MGB.

Building a Fairmile D would be a great project, as well.

My email is leo_cohn@hotmail.com.

Thanks,
Leo Cohn

Hi Leo

I'm only doing the bare hulls as a starting point for the scratchbuilder. I can print a sized GA drawing if required.

I have sent you an email regarding the short MTBs. Since my first post I have also completed;

RAF 96ft Krogerwerft D Boat.
Ham Class Minesweeper.
Camper & Nicholson MGB.
Ford Class SDB.
S38 E Boat.
Higgins PT Boat.
USAF 85ft AVR.
Fairmile A/C.
RAF 60ft GSP.
RAF 63ft GSP.
BPB 71'9" MGB/MTB.

Hi,Christian I read your post re-model boat hulls.For some years I have been endeavouring to build a model of a ton class sweeper and in particular one of my old ships HMS Houghton M1211 of which I have very fond memories of.I did make a start on it with a set of Admiralty plans for a type 1 Deltic,(enclosed bridge).Unfortunately however fate decreed that I was to be awarded with "Parkinsons Disease",at first I wasn't too bad and as time went on I devised many methods to enable me to do various tasks,but eventually Parkie" got his way much to my annoyance,ah!well such is life.Any way I am still determined to get one built ,one way or another,so,question is, do you have a "Ton" hull? and would you possibly have or know where I can get superstructure,sweep gear,bofors & ouerlican guns etc.your help would be much appreciated.Oh! and of course how much.Many thanks and kind regards Rod Hogan.

Hi Rodney

Yes I can make you a 1/72nd scale Ton hull no problem. The price is 42.00 pounds. Picture;
