Seventeen members attended the Branch Meeting on 7th June at the Sea Cadet’s new base: TS Trafalgar. Chairman Charles Baker opened the Meeting by welcoming those present, and Branch Padre the Rev Grahame Berridge gave prayers and paid homage to those servicemen who had sacrificed their lives and those that forever bear the scars of war. A few moments followed for quiet reflection. Secretary Ron Harrison referred to the pleasant and interesting day on Saturday 30th May when the Coastal Forces plaque was placed at the Royal Harbour, Ramsgate. A crowd of some 200 gathered for the event, including a strong party of CF veterans in honour of those of Coastal Forces who had operated from the Ramsgate base. He thanked Reg. Ellis on behalf of Southern Branch for arranging a pickup point for several South London members, He reported that Alex Downing, approaching 90, has been kitted up with a hearing aid, and is reduced to Talking Books because of failing eyesight, but is still very cheerful. Ron also gave details of the Lottery funded Heroes Return Mark 2. Treasurer Cliff Coe reported on the movements in our account since the last Meeting, He noted a small increase in our piggy bank and expressed satisfaction with our financial situation Welfare Officer Richard Allen listed those (five) members who are reported ‘not very well’, and all members present wished them well. Social Secretary June Baker gave notice of the Veterans’ Day to be held at Portsmouth on Saturday June 25th. Date of Next Meeting Sunday 16th August 2009 1030 hrs
