Henry Ernest Checkley

London Branch have learned of the death of shipmate 'Sparky' Henry Checkley who has gone "back to sea for the last time", having passed away peacefully, aged 93, on 21st May, 2016. Henry had earlier been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Born on 23rd October 1922 in Sheffield, Henry served with Coastal Forces in the Mediterranean during the war onboard ML 168, which was part of the 3rd ML Flotilla, and as such experienced the siege of Malta. After the war he served in the Police Force covering the Gloucester and Bristol areas. He leaves a son and a daughter, his wife having died earlier in 2013.
